Investment Strategy

Lovell Minnick Partners targets investments in asset management, financial product distribution, insurance and securities brokerage, specialty finance, and related technology and business services. We invest in companies that demonstrate significant growth potential and where we are aligned with management teams. We are committed to increasing value through a variety of methods including internal investment, acquisitions, prudent use of leverage and expense rationalization.

We seek to capitalize on opportunities by:

  • Using our knowledge, perspective, operating histories, and position as a specialist investor to identify attractive market subsectors;
  • Leveraging our reputation and market position to source investments through differentiated, and often less competitive, channels;
  • Applying proven investment criteria in opportunities that require industry context, experience, and expertise; and,
  • Using our operational experience to develop firms into market-leading institutions that are attractive to strategic and financial buyers, or that can become public companies.


Investment Size & Structure

We make equity investments generally between $20 and $100 million in each portfolio company and, with access to co-investment, we have completed transactions with values of several hundred million dollars. We invest in the following transactions:

  • Growth capital investments to support acquisitions and other expansion initiatives;
  • Management buyouts of private or public companies;
  • Ownership transitions and recapitalizations; and
  • Divestitures by financial institutions.

Investment Criteria

The criteria we use to identify potentially attractive investment opportunities include:

  • Motivated, experienced, and incentivized management teams;
  • Profitable, growth-oriented businesses;
  • Niche or differentiated business models, products, or services;
  • Opportunity for LMP to deliver added value;
  • High quality, often recurring, revenue streams.

Value Enhancement

We invest in those firms where we can meaningfully enhance their value through our active involvement with management. We use our network, industry knowledge, and operating background to assist portfolio companies by:

  • Designing, implementing, and executing organic and acquisition-based growth plans;
  • Refining and expanding product offerings, as well as marketing and distribution strategies;
  • Creating value by driving strategic initiatives and through operational improvement; and,
  • Maximizing value at exit by creating scarcity value for the portfolio companies.
